Joshua had a fantastic day. Michelle and Natasha stayed the night and we all went to the mantinee performance of Beauty and the Beast. Joshua was soooo excited he woke up at 5am. We managed to keep him upstairs until 7am by which stage he was dying to wake the girls. After a morning of play and shopping we headed off to the show. Joshua was truly captivated. That is until about 5mins from the intermission when he dozed off. I wondered if the early start would cause problems. I gave him a poke and some lollies and he made it to intermission. An icecream during the break helped cool him down and boosted his energy levels no end. Although part way through the second act Joshua said "Mummy I NEED more sugar..." The sugar worked and he lasted through the show, and the trip back to Aunty Julie's, and the trip back home and was still lasting when it was really time for bed. After every sugar high comes a low and we hit it at bedtime. First it was demands:"I want my plane" "I want my glowstick" when that didn't work he tried reasoning "I can't like my room. I can't like my room. I can't like....." When that didn't work he just tried plain old anger until of course Mummy threatened to leave at which point he rolled over and went to sleep!!
By the way Joshua was very brave and didn't freak out at the very realistic Beast. Unlike the child in front whose Grandma had to calm her with "Beast is just a bit grumpy" a line we taught her just before the show started. The guy in the row in front of her may have wanted to borrow that line too "I want Mummmmmmmmmmmmmmy. I wanna go home NOW. I wanna go home NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. Daddy I'm scared. I want MUUUUUMMMMMMMMMY" The Dad did what every self respecting male would do - cut his losses and ran. Joshua just looked at me and said "hmmmmmmm yeah Beast IS grumpy"
