On Sunday we headed up north to Matakana for a family renunion. Brian's Uncles savoured the fact that there was an impressionable young mind there and tried teasing Joshua and implanting unhelpful suggestions. (This is an artforn the Uncles have practised since their own children were young and impressionable!) Anyway Joshua seemed to be quite aware of what they were trying to do and Uncle Paul was the recipient of more than the odd glare or two!
Everyone was forbidden from mentioning the B E A C H word as if it was mentioned Joshua would be like a broken record until he went there... the family did make an effort not to mention it (maybe because I said the first person to mention it would be the one taking him.... the beach was a 15min drive down a winding rd with sections of gravel so there were no takers...lol) However after lunch we all decided it was time to hit the beach and announced this to Joshua. Uncle Mark piped up "You can't go to the beach cause the sand has all disappeared" Joshua looked very serious.. opened his mouth a few times to respond but just ended up doing a goldfish impression ...until he suddenly blurted out "But the sand came back!" Take that Uncle Mark. So we headed off to Omaha.
On arriving Sarah's Paul got the cricket set out and said to Joshua "you don't need to go swimming. Let's play cricket" Joshua thought about it and said "yes, let's play cricket.... in the water" Two birds one stone!!
